Backyard Camping Trip

Our ward Father and Son campout (sorry, now the priesthood commemeration campout) is coming up and Paul thought that Camden was finally old enough to go. So, in preparation, we had a family home evening where we planned a backyard campout. Paul had Camden think about what they would need, and then we looked around to see what we had and what we might need to buy (this also helps complete our 72 hour kit). We were pretty well prepared, except we didn't own a tent. I had looked at Target and saw a nice 4 person tent that I thought would be nice and roomy for the two, but when Paul came shopping, he had another idea. He wanted to get a tent that would have lots of room to move around and one that could be used on future boy scout campouts...well...he got this huge 12' x 10' tent that is a full 6 feet tall in the middle and sleeps up to 6 people. When we set it up in the living room to practice setting it up, it barely even fit! It was the largest 2 person tent I had ever seen ;)

On Friday night, they did the real thing. They set up the tent in the backyard, brought out their sleeping bags and some blankets, some games and the portable DVD player and camped out for the night. Camden could not have been more excited! He had been counting down all week and asked about 100 times that afternoon when daddy was coming home. Camden did very well on the campout, was not scared in the least and had a great experience-he now can't wait for the real thing!

How fun! When I looked at the pictures of your backyard it makes me really miss it out there! You have such a great yard. And that swingset! You guys did a great job putting it together! You may not want to assemble anything else ever again. :)
